About the Watch

In 1957, the descendant of G.E. Piaget brought about a revolution in the world of watchmaking by introducing the ultra-thin 9P manual winding movement at the Basel watch fair. This remarkable movement, with a thickness of just 2 mm, captivated the community with its elegant design, exceptional performance, and reliability. A mere three years later, the founder's grandson astounded the world once again with the 12P, an ultra-thin self-winding movement measuring a mere 2.3 mm. This mechanical marvel was made possible through the use of 24K gold for the micro rotor. The Journal de Geneve commented, "Creating a 2.3 mm-thin self-winding calibre had previously seemed a pipedream. The entire research team in La Cote-aux-Fees can take pride in having written one of the finest chapters in watchmaking history, and in having worked in the same spirit that drove the pioneers." Following this breakthrough, the Manufacture decided to dedicate the 12P to its men's models, while the 9P remained available for both men's and ladies' watches. With the success of these groundbreaking movements, Piaget directed their efforts towards expanding this line of watches, carefully considering the prevailing designs of the times. The use of gold and platinum played a crucial role in unleashing their creativity for both dials and cases. The balance of design is evident in the slim single and double hour markers with baton-type hands. The refined simplicity of these watches embodies an ageless design, an understatement that exudes style and grace. Since its debut in 1960, the ultra-thin Piaget model has evolved over the decades, adapting to the changing design trends. As pop culture influenced the streets, dials embraced vibrant hues with hard ruby, tiger's eye, lapis lazuli, coral, malachite, onyx, and jade stones. White and yellow case bezels and lugs were adorned with sophisticated "Clous de Paris" hobnail guilloche patterns or set with diamonds, while some retained their simple charm, remaining among the most classy dress watches in history.

About the Brand

Piaget, the prestigious practitioner of Haute Horlogerie, is one of the oldest watch manufacturers in Switzerland. It was founded in 1874 by Georges Édouard Piaget in his family home located in La Côte-aux-Fées, in the canton of Neuchâtel. Similar to other companies in the Swiss Jura, it began its life as a movement manufacturer. Its reputation for high quality led the company to supply several prestigious watch companies with its revered movements.
